When the client approached us to design the logo he had a very clear idea of who his target markets are and the mood he wanted to portray in the logo. He requested the logo appeal to two different kinds of vacation rental owners/operators: first, the more emotionally invested client with a strong “family-run” business perspective; and second, the more profit driven and efficiency-prone client. These targets nearly run the gamut of the kinds of homeowners and operators of vacation rentals in Rome whom might be interested in Roma Checkin’s services.
As for the mood, the client sought a logo mark that expressed themes like “friendly”, “smiley”, “attention to detail”, and “del posto” (sense of place). He noted the logo for Hostmaker was a positive example of the mood he was looking for.
So from this clear creative brief we were able to draft the first set of 3 design proposals.
After presenting the first 3 proposals, the client selected the second version to elaborate for the final logo mark.
The official red and yellow representative of the flag for the city of Rome were added and combined with the friendly, service-oriented mint color used in the original proposal. The key element was tucked under the k to mimic a dimple and suggest the smiley, friendly service clients can come to expect. A simplified logo mark with just the key can be used in other contexts where the client may prefer a more minimal look, such as on letterhead, social media profiles, or branded gadgets.
